TWD - Cheating on my old pie crust with French Apple Tart

I've been merrily making the same pie crust for years.  My mom would tell me tales of new recipes and methods she had tried, but I would have no part of it.  I loved my tried and true crust.  But then this one came along and it may be time to ditch my old pie crust recipe.  This one is similar with both butter and shortening, but somehow it's butterier and flakier.  So this recipe is a keeper not just for the wonderful crust, but also the filling.  I loved the filling and was glad I had a little left over.  The book suggested it could be saved and eaten as an ice cream topping.  As if.  I couldn't wait that long and ate it with a spoon while I waited for the tart to bake.  And I love the French bakery look of this tart too.

Ditto on eating the filling with the spoon. We had five spoons digging into the bowl at the same time, fighting for every last scrape. LOL!

Your tart looks beautiful!

Your tart looks fantastic. And it browned up so nicely. Mine didn't get nearly that dark. (and I even turned the heat up!)
It truly was a good tart. One I would make again. (and just might since I have all that extra dough)

lol, I actually like the filling more by itself than as part of the tart! It made for a tasty applesauce. And I love this pie crust dough. It has never let me down! Your tart looks absolutely beautiful!

Your tart browned so well! Any tips? I agree about the tart dough, it is so light and flaky, and seems fool proof? definitely my go-to dough from now.

I am sure that filling was spoon worthy warm out of the oven - with vanilla ice cream and some caramel. MMMMM

SandraM and Saucygander - I cheated a little to get mine browned. It wouldn't brown after 40 minutes so I stuck under the broiler for about 3 minutes and voila!

Ir's a nice pie dough, isn't it. I am mot normally a user of shortening, but this dough changed my mind.
